“What does mental health mean to you?”
Make the Connection recently sat down with a group of Veterans and their family members in San Diego to ask that question. For some, mental health means enjoying open and honest communication with their family members. For others, it means getting involved in causes that they’re passionate about. The answers highlight everything that’s possible through mental health treatment.
“Mental health means taking care of myself so that I can take care of others,” says Becca, a U.S. Navy Veteran. She was sexually assaulted during her deployment, and because she reached out for help, she’s now able to provide support and comfort to fellow Veterans dealing with similar experiences.
For Rick, a U.S. Army Veteran, mental health means enjoying time with his family again. Treatment provided him with the tools to manage his anger in a healthier way — and to strengthen the bonds with his family.
The wide range of inspiring answers affirms that mental health means different things to different people. During Mental Health Month, watch the video below to hear about the real-life possibilities through treatment.
