Welcome to My Story, My Connection — Make the Connection’s video series featuring candid conversations with Veterans of all backgrounds about mental health treatment and recovery.

This video highlights the bond of two Iraq War Veterans — Moses, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, and Steven, who served in the U.S. Army. They met at a Veterans event at a San Diego Padres game and instantly connected over their military background and recent transition to civilian life.

When they left the military, Moses and Steven both had a tough time trying to figure out a next step in life that provided the same sense of pride as serving their country. “The transition is one of the biggest issues for our combat Vets,” says Steven. “You’re going to feel that loss of self-identity, and no one’s going to be able to understand who you are.” By connecting with resources and tapping into their local Veteran community, they were both able to find a new purpose.

You need to find the Veterans in the community and get connected. Steven, U.S. Army Veteran

“There’s tons of organizations. There’s tons of groups. There’s tons of places to meet up,” says Steven. “You need to find the Veterans in the community and get connected.”

Hear about the challenges Moses and Steven faced, the resources or programs they accessed, and how they found a network of support in their community that led them to a new purpose and mission.
